First Aid Courses

Providing exceptional, accessible first aid training

In the UK, thousands of people die in incidents every year when they could have been saved if there had been someone there with first aid training. The sad fact is that many people don’t know even the basics of first aid. Surveys have shown that nearly two-thirds of people (59%) within the UK wouldn’t feel confident enough to even try and save a life, and a further quarter of these people (24%) would do nothing and wait for an ambulance to arrive or even hope that a passerby would know the correct first aid required.

In the workplace though, the Health & Safety Executive’s (HSE) 1981 (First Aid) Regulations as well as the HSENI with Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982 require that trained first aiders be available. According to these regulations, for every 100 people in a workplace there must be 1 named first aider. Of course, this doesn’t take into account covering holidays, sick leave, employee turnover and the layout of businesses, so it may be practical to actually have 4 or 5 trained first aiders, or to have 1 per floor or per section of a company.

At Amalgamate, we provide high quality, certified first aid training to help you ensure that your organisation is compliant, and that your staff are protected. Our trainers are highly experienced occupational health and safety practitioners, who have gained a reputation for providing exceptional first aid training. We use a variety of techniques, incorporating technologies such as webinars and on-demand module-led training, alongside traditional methods – our approach is geared towards accessibility, and real comprehension of the relevant issues.

First aid training can help you deal with a heart attack, a broken bone, or even small things like a minor cut, and the training that a first aider will need varies depending on the working environment. Whatever the situation, a first aider needs to have the knowledge and skills to know how to help when an incident occurs. At Amalgamate we offer a range of courses suitable for everyone from people working in small, low risk environments, to people working in large, remote or high risk environments who may need additional training in how to deal with catastrophic bleeds.

First aid training certificates are valid for 3 years, after which first aiders must be recertified. Many people, however, find it helpful to do a half day refresher training course every year to make sure that it is fresh in their minds so that they can react as quickly as possible should their skills be needed.
