First Aid for Mental Health

Learning Outcomes

This course will essentially cover everything in our awareness course with addition to understanding the impact of substance abuse. Candidates will also learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

After this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define mental health
  2. Understand the stigma surrounding mental health
  3. Identify factors that can affect a persons mental health
  4. Understand the role of a first aider for mental health
  5. Outline the advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition know when to contact the emergency services in respect of first aid for mental health
  6. Identify signs of stress and how to manage these
  7. Identify signs and/or symptoms for the following mental health conditions; Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Eating Disorders, Suicide, Self Harm
  8. Understand the impact of substance abuse
  9. Carry out the first aid action plan for mental health
  10. Implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace

Assessment

This course is assessed through a written assessment and a practical demonstration of the first aid action plan for mental health. Candidates will need to pass both of these aspects to achieve the qualification.
